As a regional state-assisted institution, SVSU has consistently provided high quality cost-effective service to the region it serves. The HLC Team commends the institution on the following partial list of significant accomplishments:
• The campus physical plant has doubled in square footage over the past ten years, providing an attractive, spacious and functional learning environment. Buildings are well maintained and provide an electronic infrastructure to facilitate the use of state-of-the-art instructional technology throughout the campus.
• The dedication of faculty and administrators to the maintenance and ongoing development of a campus culture that is student-centered with quality teaching as the highest priority.
• A consistent increase in the quality of students to the extent that SVSU enrolls more valedictorians and salutatorians from the East-Central region of Michigan than any other public college or university in the state.
• The establishment of a distinctive cultural environment that includes the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, a facility that houses the works and simulated studio of an internationally recognized artist. The Museum draws patrons of the arts and scholars from around the world to the SVSU campus.
• A Board of Control, whose members take their responsibilities seriously, are loyal to the institution, and dedicated to its success. The Board utilizes a committee structure that allows all members to remain current in financial, academic and other campus issues.
• Through well-planned growth, and the recruitment of highly qualified faculty, the institution is achieving its mission to add value to the region. SVSU is responsive to the needs of the citizens of East-Central Michigan and has clearly become the educational and cultural center for the region.
