  A Quiet Year of Planning
1967

Wickes Hall
This was a year of planning. Plans for the campus layout continued as well as plans to increase enrollment.

The State Board approved the teacher education board certification program.

Classes began on campus in the fall of 1967. Saginaw Valley had its first birthday and with it came various achievements. The college invited the entire community to help them celebrate its first year as an academic institution. Still, in the beginning, there were disappointments. Some delays in construction were encountered along with complications in directing traffic around the school.

September of 1967 included the ground breaking for the first academic building. Following, was the first dorm built on campus which housed more than 200 students. In its second year, the college was anticipating enrollment to be over 400 students.
