The week-long official campus dedication took place from October
26 to November 2, 1969. From basement rooms at Delta College to
its status as a private and state sponsored institution with its
own physical location, Saginaw Valley College established a place
for itself in the Tri-County area.
President Marble's Remarks
In his dedication
commentary, President Marble spoke with pride:
"Five
years ago, Saginaw Valley College was nothing but a name. Today
there is a campus to bear that name. Five years ago Saginaw Valley
College was a pocketful of hopes and dreams, with a determination
to pull the Tri-County area abreast the rest of the state in higher
education. Today a solid start has been made in that direction.
At the beginning, capital could be calculated only in terms of
commitment, determination, and purpose. Today, the capital investment
in this institution is in excess of 10 million dollars.
During
the past five years money was given...land was acquired for a
campus...and an academic plan for the institution was created.
A charter for the institution providing state support was granted
by the Legislature. Buildings were constructed and the nucleus
of a fine faculty and a qualified student body were assembled."
